US President Donald Trump authorized the sending of two thousand more soldiers from the National Guard to Los Angeles, totaling about 5,000 agents who will be highlighted in the city amid chaos started with protests on Friday after beating federal immigration agents.
The measure intensifies tensions with California governor Gavin Newsom, and activists favorable to immigrants without document in the city.
In addition to double the number of California National Guard soldiers, Trump ordered the mobilization of 700 men from the Marines body with the argument of containing the protests against recent migratory beats, according to the Department of Defense.
Soldiers will be assigned to take care of the city’s federal buildings. Currently, only a few dozen soldiers are assigned to take care of the federal complex in downtown Los Angeles, which includes the immigrant detention center.
California prosecutor Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit against the Trump government claiming that the measure taken by the administration was “abuse of authority” of the federal government and violated the tenth emenda of the Constitution, which establishes the powers delegated to US states.
Governor Gavin Newsom stated that the measure taken by the White House “is not public safety,” but “flattering the ego” of the president. “This is reckless. Useless. And a lack of respect for our troops,” the Democrat insisted.
In the last five days, California is the scene of protests against the performance of the US Immigration and Customs Service (ICE).
According to CNNbuildings were vandalized with graffiti in downtown Los Angeles. In addition, cars have been burned down in recent days amid clashes between police and protesters.
