Lithuania closed the border with Belarus until the end of November

At a meeting held on October 29, the Lithuanian government decided to extend the closure of the border with Belarus until November 30. It was closed a few days ago due to new penetration of flying objects from the Belarusian side.

The Shalcininkai-Benyakoni border crossing will be closed completely, and the Medininkai-Kamenny Log border crossing will operate with restrictions. Here the ban will not apply to diplomats, diplomatic mail, persons traveling under a simplified transit document, Lithuanian citizens returning to Lithuania, and members of their families.

Citizens of the European Union, European Economic Area and NATO countries and members of their families entering Lithuania, foreigners returning to the country with a valid permit in Lithuania, as well as foreign citizens holding humanitarian visas will be able to cross the border. It is unclear whether this applies to Russian citizens living in the Kaliningrad region.

Official Vilnius classifies border violations as deliberate provocations of the Belarusian authorities allied with Russia. “For our not very friendly neighbors who are not doing anything, this should be a clear signal,” said Lithuanian Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovic.
