DFB Cup: Urbig, missing VAR and Kane: Bayern cannot be stopped

14th competitive game, 14th win: FC Bayern Munich’s impressive dominance continues in the DFB Cup. With a 4:1 (2:1) after a 0:1 deficit against the Bundesliga promoted team 1. FC Köln, who had been playing brilliantly for a long time, Super Bayern finally moved confidently into the round of 16. In addition to double goalscorer Harry Kane (38th and 64th minute), former Cologne keeper Jonas Urbig, representing the suspended Manuel, was the new match winner for coach Vincent Kompany’s team.

However, Luiz Diaz (36th) had previously equalized Cologne’s lead from Ragnar Ache (31st) from an unpunished offside position. Michael Olise (72nd) completed a counterattack to score Bayern’s fourth goal.

Cologne gets off to a great start and keeps failing because of Urbig

The bold people of Cologne only got a taste of the sensation for 30 minutes. Always stimulated by motivator Lukas Kwasniok, who stood on the edge of the pitch in a T-shirt at around 13 degrees, even in the rain, FC played courageously forward and had several good opportunities. The strong Isak Johannesson (11th) and Jakub Kaminski (25th) were defeated by the best man on the pitch up to that point: goalkeeper Urbig.

The 22-year-old returned to his hometown club for the first time since moving to Munich. Apparently highly motivated at his old place of work, Urbig initially saved the record champions from falling behind. It was only after a Johannesson corner that the young goalkeeper was powerless when Ache headed in after a mistake by Dayot Upamecano and turned the Cologne stadium into a madhouse almost two weeks before the official start of the carnival.

Cologne’s keeper Zieler makes a mistake

Shortly afterwards, within just two minutes, the tomcat was already there. Particularly bitter: Goal scorer Diaz was clearly offside when the scorer equalized. Former national goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, who is preferred to regular goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe in the DFB Cup, slapped a shot from Josip Stanisic directly at Diaz’s feet. Because there is no video referee in the second round of the cup, the mistake made by Tobias Welz’s referee team was not corrected.

A little later it wasn’t luck, but the world class of goalgetter Kane that gave Bayern the lead. The captain of the England national team made excellent use of a pass from Olise when he circled the ball past Zieler into the far corner from the turn.

Cologne reacted courageously again after the break. Having advanced far, Bayern had counterattack opportunities early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Diaz missed the huge opportunity to make an early decision by running towards Zieler alone, but chased the ball over the Rhinelander’s goal. In the end it became clear.

Tormaschine Kane

Kane headed in after a corner to make the decision because Cologne keeper Zieler was far too indecisive when it came to the ball. It was the 22nd goal of the season for the English goal machine in their 14th competitive game. Shortly afterwards the evening was over for Cologne’s great future hope Said El Mala. The 19-year-old, who was unable to make a decisive impact this time apart from a few skilful moves in the first half, was substituted after just over an hour.

So the hoped-for talent duel with Bayern’s Lennart Karl didn’t happen. The 17-year-old was only substituted on a quarter of an hour before the end of the game. At this point the game had long since been decided after Olise’s counterattack goal.
