Khamenei: “Dialogue with the United States is possible only after the renunciation of support for the Zionist regime”

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, delivered a speech dedicated to the “Day of Combating Global Arrogance.” It marks the anniversary of the 1979 seizure of the American embassy in Tehran.

Khamenei said that the differences with the United States are fundamental. “Only if the United States completely renounces support for the damned Zionist regime, removes its bases from the region and stops interfering in its internal affairs, can its demand for cooperation with Iran be considered,” he said.

The Ayatollah spoke of a “long history” of US hostility towards Iran. He called the seizure of the American embassy during the Islamic Revolution “the destruction of a spy den,” calling US policy under the Shah’s regime colonial.
