The East Flemish public prosecutor’s office summoned the Hungarian man for a collision in the underground car park of the Vrijdagmarkt. A car crashed into a barrier, causing it to break. The driver then committed a hit-and-run accident. Thanks to camera images, they were able to determine the license plate.
The car was registered in the Hungarian’s name and that is why he was brought to court. The man traveled 1,500 kilometers to attend his trial. When his case was discussed, he was also adamant: he had not committed that offense and he really didn’t know what it was about. The man stated that his son occasionally used his car.
After his statement, the judge decided to look at the camera images again. She could only conclude that the man who was summoned was not the man in the images. “You are acquitted,” was the judge’s verdict.
