Today’s report begins with the statement: “Tonight, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a group strike with high-precision ground-based weapons, Kinzhal aeroballistic hypersonic missiles and long-range unmanned aerial vehicles on transport infrastructure facilities, the fuel and energy complex of Ukraine, used in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as an enterprise involved in the production of long-range attack unmanned aerial vehicles. These data do not include information on the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, a significant part of the territory of which was held by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for more than eight months. From the point of view of the Russian authorities, the “special operation” on the territory of Ukraine and the “special operation” in the Kursk region were different military operations. On April 26, 2025, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General Valery Gerasimov, announced to Russian President Vladimir Putin about the complete liberation of the Kursk region from the Ukrainian armed forces. According to independent observers, the Russian Ministry of Defense greatly overestimates the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Confirmed losses of the Russian army and pro-Russian military structures in Ukraine (we are talking about verified data from open sources collected by the editors of Mediazona and the BBC) amount to about 153,200 people killed (by famous names) or about 219 thousand (by inheritance cases).

According to the independent resource UA Loss, which takes into account all those killed on the Ukrainian side, indicating their names and other data, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian army (February 24, 2022), more than 172 thousand Ukrainian military personnel have died or gone missing.

According to confirmed UN data, since February 24, 2022, more than 14,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed (including over 700 minors), and tens of thousands have been injured. At the same time, the UN emphasizes that we are talking only about verified incidents, and the real numbers are “significantly higher.” Ukrainian authorities say that tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians have died (the largest number of victims is in Mariupol, according to local authorities, more than 20,000).
