Syria reports three dead soldiers after Israeli airstrike

According to Syrian sources, three soldiers were killed and three others injured in an airstrike in Syria. On Sunday evening, targets near the capital Damascus were fired upon by Israeli rockets, the Syrian state news agency Sana said. At the same time, the Tartus region was attacked from the Mediterranean. The Israeli army initially did not comment on the reports.

Israel’s air force regularly bombs targets in neighboring civil war-torn Syria. Israel wants to prevent its arch-enemy Iran and its allied militias from expanding their military influence in Syria. Along with Russia, Iran is the Syrian government’s most important ally in the civil war.

The air defense forces are facing “enemy targets” over Tartus and the Qalamoun Mountains near the border with Lebanon, it said. Explosions could be heard. The attack was carried out by Israeli planes from Lebanese territory.
