At least 35 dead and more than 50 injured in a fire that broke out in a church in the Giza district of Egypt. The fire broke out while 5,000 worshipers gathered in the church for prayer time. A preliminary investigation shows that the source of the ignition is most likely a generator. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called the fire a “tragic accident” and said he was “closely following the development.” The governor of Giza ordered urgent financial aid.

At the same time, the Attorney General of Egypt ordered the establishment of a large investigative team to investigate the fire incident. Dr. Hussam Abdel Afar, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, confirmed that the state of preparedness in the hospitals in the region has risen to the maximum level.
