After the storm of the Holocaust: the German police announced the opening of an investigation against Abu Mazen

The Berlin police announced this morning (Friday) that they have opened a preliminary investigation against the chairman of the Palestinian Authority, Abu Mazen, due to his comments that Israel has carried out 50 holocausts on the Palestinians. The comments, made in the middle of a press conference alongside German Chancellor Olaf Schulz, caused outrage and public uproar in Israel and Germany .

In fact, the police confirmed a report by the German newspaper “Bild” according to which an investigation was opened for inciting hatred against Abbas, after a criminal complaint was filed against him. It is important to emphasize that Holocaust denial is a criminal offense in Germany. At the same time, opening a preliminary investigation does not necessarily constitute the very existence of a full investigation, and the German Foreign Ministry stated that due to Abbas being an official representative of the Palestinian Authority visiting Germany, he enjoys immunity.

As a reminder, Germany does not recognize the territories of the Palestinian Authority as a sovereign state, a position that Chancellor Schulz himself repeated last Tuesday.
