– The FDA, the US government body that deals with the regulation of pharmaceutical products, has given emergency approval to Pfizer-BioNTech’s anti-Covid vaccine, in a lower dose than that for adults, for children who are between 5 and 11 years of age.

A group of expert consultants from the American government he had already pronounced himself in favor of administering the anti-Covid vaccine Pfizer earlier this week anticipating the fact that the US would become the first Western country to vaccinate minors of this age group.

The committee determined that the benefits of administering the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine (2 doses 3 weeks apart, 10 micrograms each, one third of that of adults) are greater than the risks even for such small children.

the United States Food and Drugs Administration, on the same day, also authorized the administration of a booster of the vaccine against Covid-19 with a different serum from the one with which the vaccination cycle was started. “The FDA has determined that the known and potential benefits of using a single heterologous booster outweigh the known and potential risks of their use in the eligible population,” a statement read.

In the US, vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson have been authorized. For the third dose (second for those who have received the single dose of J&J) it will therefore be possible to choose any of these three.
