At least two dead and 65 injured in a new massive attack with Russian missiles and drones against kyiv

The Ukrainian authorities have denounced this Saturday a large-scale Russian air attack launched against the kyiv region and the country’s capital during the early hours of the morning, in which ballistic missiles and drones have been used in combination and which has resulted in at least two deaths in the surroundings of the city, which has received the worst of the attack and has so far recorded 65 injuries and numerous material damages.

The two dead have been identified in the peripheral areas of Bucha and Obujiv, as reported by the head of the kyiv Regional State Administration, Mikola Kalashnik, who has also confirmed nine other injuries in the periphery.

Several waves of explosions began to shake the city and the periphery around 01:00 a.m. (local time) and, later, around 03:00 a.m. (local time), coinciding with the activation of anti-aircraft alerts in different regions of the country, after the Ukrainian Air Force detected “dozens” of missiles directed towards kyiv and its surroundings.

The Air Force itself has subsequently warned of a possible launch by Russia of an Oreshnik-type medium-range ballistic missile around 00:55 hours (local time), although at the moment the use of this weapon during the attack has not been officially confirmed.

For his part, the head of the kyiv Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko, has reported impacts and damage in multiple districts of the city, including Obolonskii, Shevchenkivskii, Holosiivskii, Solomianskii, Desnianskii, Darnytskii, Dniprovskii and Podil.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who is providing regular updates on his Telegram account, has explained that missile fragments have hit a 24-story residential building in the Shevchenkivskii district. Likewise, he has indicated that remains of projectiles have fallen near a “non-residential” area and also in the vicinity of a school. Thirty injured people are hospitalized, including two children.

Tkachenko has also noted that debris from the attacks hit the roof of a high-rise building in the Darnytskyi district, while several homes were damaged in Solomianskyi and Dniprovskyi. Damage was also reported to two residential buildings in Obolonskyi after being hit by Russian projectiles.

Local authorities have also reported damage to other urban infrastructure, including a supermarket, a student residence, several warehouses and a garage affected by missile and drone impacts in different neighborhoods of the capital.

Outside kyiv, several Ukrainian media have reported explosions in the cities of Cherkassy and Kropivnitskii, as well as in the Khmelnitsky region, within the framework of the same air attack.

This offensive occurred just a few hours after the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, warned of Russian preparations for a large-scale bombing of Ukrainian territory, including the capital.

On the other hand, the United States Embassy in kyiv had also issued a warning about the possibility of a large-scale air attack in the next 24 hours, although without specifying the type of weapons that Russia could use.

Hours before the bombing of kyiv, Russian attacks had also injured civilians in different areas of southern and eastern Ukraine, including the Odessa and Kharkiv regions.

Furthermore, hours before the massive attack on kyiv, Ukrainian authorities had already reported new Russian bombings against several regions in the south and east of the country that left dozens of civilians injured.

In the Odessa region, a Russian missile attack has hit civilian infrastructure, according to regional governor Oleh Kiper. According to a preliminary report released by local authorities, at least nine people were injured, including three minors between eight and twelve years old.

Kiper specified that seven of the injured had to be hospitalized and noted that one of the affected adults was in serious condition, while the children had moderate injuries. “All relevant services are working on the scene,” said the regional governor, before adding that “the injured are receiving all necessary medical assistance.”

The regional official has also stressed that the authorities continue to evaluate the full extent of the damage caused by the attack and collect information on the consequences of the bombings.

In parallel, Russian forces have also launched attacks against the Kharkov region, where drones have struck different points, including the city of Balakliia. Local authorities reported at least nine people injured as a result of these bombings.

These attacks come after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly warned that Russia would be preparing a far-reaching combined offensive against Ukraine, including kyiv. The president also assured that the Intelligence services were handling indications about a possible deployment of the Oreshnik hypersonic missile by Moscow.
