“There must be no mistakes”: Iran-US memorandum of understanding restores hope of reopening Hormuz

Two steps forward, one step back. After several weeks of talks which seemed to lead nowhere, as the United States and Iran oppose each other on all subjects, diplomacy has finally produced “progress”. On Saturday, Donald Trump said that an agreement between the two countries was getting “very close”. The next morning, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio contemplates the possibility that “the world will receive some good news” in the coming hours.

But in the afternoon, the American president’s more cautious remarks revealed a change in tone and strategy. “The blockade will remain in full force until an agreement is reached, certified and signed,” he wrote on his Truth Social network.
