India announces release in Iran of ten detained Indian sailors in July 2025

The Indian authorities have announced the release in Iran of ten Indian sailors detained in July 2025 after the interception of an oil tanker near the port of Jask, without the Iranian Government having commented at the moment on the situation, which has been reached after “diplomatic interactions and coordinated efforts” from New Delhi.

The Directorate General of the Merchant Navy of India, dependent on the Indian Government, has indicated in a statement published on social networks that the ten sailors of the ‘MV Harbor Phoenix’ have been released after “being detained, arrested and imprisoned in Iran following the interception of their ship near the port of Jask in July 2025.”

Thus, he has indicated that this has been possible after diplomatic contacts by the Government of India, the company that owns the ship and “other actors”, before reiterating his “immovable commitment” to “the well-being, safety and protection of Indian sailors around the world.”

Finally, the organization has emphasized that “the necessary actions are being coordinated for the return of the crew to India”, without giving details about where they are at this moment and when their repatriation from Iranian territory is planned.
