Köln – If you get hungry on your vacation flight, you can now grab one of Germany’s most popular fast food dishes. The airline Eurowings has expanded its on-board bistro and is focusing on a real classic: the kebab!
The “Fladenbread Döner Style” is filled with chicken kebab meat, coleslaw, cucumber sticks, shepherd’s cheese and diced tomatoes. The German one does without one ingredient airline However, quite consciously: garlic. The reason is obvious. After all, passengers often sit next to each other for several hours in a small space. To avoid odor problems in the cabin after eating, the on-board kebab remains garlic-free.
The price and size of the dish
The dish costs 6.90 euros and is offered on longer flights – as long as the flight time allows the preparation of warm dishes, a Eurowings spokeswoman tells BILD. Anyone who has collected enough miles can Rotary Alternatively, you can also order for 1900 miles. When you look at the menu, however, you notice that the flatbread is more of a snack than a full meal, because the kebab is compact: according to the menu, it only weighs 180 grams. If that’s not enough, you can also order the “Fries in the Skies” as a portion of fries for 5.90 euros.
In addition to a kebab, Eurowings also sells currywurst and fries on long-haul flights
Why the fast food classic is returning
The idea is not entirely new. Eurowings already had a kebab in its range in 2020. Back then, the filling consisted of chicken, coleslaw, goat cheese and tomato slices. The Preis was six euros. “Our passengers had increasingly expressed their desire for the kebab to be put back on the menu,” explains the spokeswoman.
Anyone who prefers a German classic will also find what they are looking for. Currywurst is now an integral part of the on-board menu. It costs 8.90 euros and, according to the menu, weighs 275 grams – significantly more than the flatbread.
Who still serves kebab on the plane?
Eurowings is not the only airline with a kebab offer. The Turkish-Dutch airline Corendon is also offering flights between Germany and Turkey a flatbread pocket with grilled meat and salad. Between 8 and 10 euros are due for this. Lahmacun is also on the map there.
