Donald Trump: Iran shot down an American military helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump said on Truth Social that a US military helicopter lost in the Strait of Hormuz was shot down by the Iranians. Earlier, the American leader said that both crew members were rescued.

“Our excellent military has just informed me that last night the Iranians shot down one of our most advanced Apache helicopters over the Strait of Hormuz. No pilots were injured. However, the United States must respond to this attack if necessary,” Trump writes.

Journalist Barak Ravid quotes a senior American source as saying the helicopter was rammed by an Iranian drone. It is unclear at this stage whether this was a deliberate strike or a collision.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi made it clear that the US helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz was not deliberately shot down. “Foreign forces close to our territory are constantly at risk due to human error, random incidents or the possibility of being caught in the crossfire,” he wrote on social media X, adding: “To reduce the risk, the best solution is to leave here.” He concluded his publication with the threat: “We prefer the language of diplomacy, but we also speak other languages.”
