At least 80 people were killed in the explosion of a fuel warehouse in the industrial zone of Freetown, the authorities of Sierra Leone announced today.
The ambulance service stated that the explosion happened on Friday night and that 80 bodies were found on the spot.
Hospital sources reported that many injured men, women and children were hospitalized.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was caused by a vehicle that caught fire at a gas station after a traffic accident. The fire then spread to the surrounding area.
Several bodies were found in cars and on neighboring streets.
A delegation of the authorities visited the place of the accident today.
