Journalist Mukhtarli claims that Azerbaijan paid 3 million dollars to Georgia for his abduction

Azerbaijani investigative journalist Afghan Mukhtarli claims that Azerbaijan paid 3 million dollars to Georgia to kidnap him in Tbilisi in 2017, he stated after his testimony at the Georgian prosecutor’s office.

Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia officially recognized him as a victim.

Mukhtarli demands to interrogate former Prime Minister of Georgia, billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili and Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri, whom he considers to be participants in the case of organizing his kidnapping.

Afghan Mukhtarli, critic of the Azerbaijani authorities, fled from Azerbaijan to Georgia in 2015. In 2017, he was kidnapped in Tbilisi, transferred to Azerbaijan and sentenced to a long prison term. Due to international pressure, he was released in 2020 and received asylum in Europe.
