Despite the signals coming from Ankara, Finland declares that it wants to enter NATO together with Sweden. Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto made such a statement today, expressing hope that the two Nordic countries will join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization before the Vilnius summit scheduled for July 11-12.
“Finland and Sweden have very serious reasons for simultaneous membership. One of them is that we have a common coastal zone in the Baltic Sea. If something happens in the region, both states will feel its impact. So Finland and Sweden should become members of NATO”, declared the head of Finnish diplomacy.
