For WHO, there are no indications that Omicron causes more serious disease

“There is no indication that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus causes more severe forms of Covid-19”. This was stated by Michael Ryan, director of the WHO emergency health program.

“There is no reason to expect current vaccines to fail against the Omicron variant” of the coronavirus. WHO executive director Michael Ryan said, adding that there are no indications that the new variant causes more severe forms of Covid than the Delta variant.

“We have very effective vaccines that have been shown to be potent against all variants so far, in terms of disease severity and hospitalization, and there is no reason to believe that this would not be the case” even with Omicron, Ryan explained, while stressing that we are still at the beginning of the Omicron studies.
