Azerbaijan denounces the death of a military man by shooting by the Armenian Army on the border

The Government of Azerbaijan has denounced this Thursday the death of a military man by shooting by the Armenian Army on the border between the two countries, in what it has described as “another provocation” by the Armed Forces of Armenia.

“As a result of another provocation carried out by the Armed Forces of Armenia during the night of December 8 in the direction of the Kalbajar region, the soldier Aliyev Asif Adil has become a martyr,” said the Azeri Defense Ministry through a statement.

He also stressed that “as a result of the relevant measures adopted by the Azeri Army units, the opposite side has been suppressed.” “The military and political leadership of Armenia bears full responsibility for these new tensions,” he has settled.

For its part, the Armenian Defense Ministry has accused the Azerbaijani Army of “opening fire with weapons of different caliber in the direction of combat positions of the Armenian Armed Forces located in the eastern zone of the border.”

“The enemy’s shots were silenced by response actions,” he said, while emphasizing that “there are no victims on the Armenian side.” Likewise, he has demanded that Baku “avoid provocative actions aimed at aggravating the situation.”

Armenia and Azerbaijan staged a confrontation a year ago for the control of Nagorno-Karabakh, a territory with a majority Armenian population that has been the focus of conflict since it decided to separate in 1988 from the Azerbaijani region integrated into the Soviet Union.

The hostilities between the two countries lasted for six weeks and left thousands of people dead. They finally ceased when the two countries reached a ceasefire agreement with the mediation of Russia, allowing Russian peacekeepers to settle in Nagorno Karabakh for a period of five years.

However, both countries staged new clashes in November that threatened to escalate the situation on the border, although Yerevan and Baku soon after confirmed a truce reached again with the mediation of Russia.
