Iran issues death sentences in attack on Shiite shrine

A court in the Iranian province of Fars has sentenced to death two men found involved in the attack on the Shah Sherakh mausoleum in Shiraz. The terrorist attack that claimed 15 lives was carried out in October 2022. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for it.

The defendants admitted that they collaborated with this political group, receiving instructions and assistance from its representatives in Afghanistan. Three more people involved in the same case were sentenced to terms of imprisonment of up to 25 years.

The direct perpetrator of the attack was a citizen of Tajikistan, Sobkhan Komruni. Initially, it was reported that he was detained, but later it became known that he died from wounds received during the detention.
