The Russian Foreign Ministry described the incident as a terrorist act and the result of “Russophobic hysteria”. The liquid caught fire and no employees were injured “by a lucky coincidence”.

The ChargĂ© d “Affaires” of the Ukrainian embassy in Moscow had been sent a “resolute protest” as well as the demand that Ukraine fulfill its international obligations to secure diplomatic and consular missions.

An apology is expected from Kiev. In addition, the Russian embassy in Kiev sent a protest note to the Ukrainian foreign ministry, in which it called for greater security measures for the consulate general and its employees, it said.
