People’s Party: The verdict against Novaković is a picture and opportunity of today’s party judiciary
The People’s Party announced today that the verdict against the vice president of that party, Borislav Novaković, is “a picture and an opportunity of today’s party justice”.“Novakovic was convicted because he defended the citizens as a member of the Assembly of Vojvodina, while Darko Saric and Predrag Koluvija, accused of smuggling and production of tons of cocaine and marijuana, were released from custody,” the People’s Party said in a statement.

On Thursday, Novaković announced on Twitter that he had been sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years.

“I have just received a verdict by which the Court of Appeals confirms the first instance. So, I was sentenced to six months in prison (two years probation), because I defended an innocent man in Vrbas as an MP,” Novakovic wrote.

The People’s Party states in a statement that the verdict will not stop the party or Novakovic in the fight to change the criminal regime of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, which is increasingly certain in the elections announced for April 3.

In September 2018, the police in Vrbas arrested Novaković and seven other people who opposed the removal of the facility, which was carried out by the local government.
