Putin remembers tens of thousands of corona deaths in a New Year’s address

Russian President Vladimir Putin thought of the many corona deaths in his New Year’s address and encouraged the people in his country. “This insidious disease has cost tens of thousands of lives,” said Putin, referring to the high death toll of around 1,000 victims every day in Russia. “I would like to express my sincere condolences to everyone who has lost relatives and loved ones.”

300.000 Corona-Tote

At the same time, Putin paid tribute to those who “rescue and care for the sick” in the address broadcast on state television on Friday. The official Russian corona statistics show more than 300,000 deaths. The vaccination quota is therefore 61.8 percent, which corresponds to 74.5 million fully vaccinated people. “We were faced with colossal challenges, but we have learned to live under these harsh conditions and to cope with difficult tasks,” Putin continued.
