Austria imposes the mandatory use of the mask outdoors duethe omicron variant

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer announced on Thursday the imposition of the mask outdoors in an attempt to stop the infections caused by the omicron variant of the coronavirus.

From now on, the use of the FFP2 mask will be mandatory outdoors as long as the social distance of two meters stipulated by the authorities cannot be maintained, such as in crowded streets or queues.

Likewise, businesses will only allow entry to those people who have the complete vaccination schedule. However, the quarantine period for those who test positive has been reduced to five days.

Nehammer has indicated that the situation is “serious”, but has clarified that, through a joint effort, it will not be necessary to impose a new quarantine. The number of cases is increasing, according to government data, which have registered 8,853 cases in the last 24 hours.
