Italy reports nearly 200,000 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours

The Italian authorities have reported this Saturday 197,552 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the second highest figure in a single day, just below the 219,434 cases last Thursday.

Saturday’s epidemiological bulletin also includes 184 and a positive rate of 16.2 percent. The total number of confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic is 7,281,297 and that of deaths, 138,881.

On Friday, a positive rate of 22 percent, 108,287 new infections and 223 deaths were reported.

The data reflect “a rapid and widespread increase in new cases of infections,” according to the Higher Institute of Health, which forecasts daily infection figures of 400,000 for next week.
