Because of Corona: Russia’s population has shrunk by half a million

Russia’s population has dropped by more than half a million people in the pandemic year 2021.

According to numbers released on Friday by the Rosstat statistical agency, roughly 145.5 million people lived in the country, which is the largest in terms of area, at the beginning of January, nearly 700,000 less than a year earlier. In a culture that has been decreasing for years, this is the largest population decline since 2003.

These data include the number of migrants who have settled in the area. According to Rosstat, Russia’s population would have shrunk by more than a million people last year if not for them.

Covid-Tote

With Covid-19, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova primarily explained the high death rate. Russia has officially recorded 329,000 corona fatalities since the outbreak began. Experts, on the other hand, feel the actual figures are substantially higher.

Due to the omicron wave of new illnesses, the vast country has been experiencing one peak after another for days. The Russian government’s corona data just revealed that there were more over 98,000 illnesses and 673 deaths in less than 24 hours.
