Visoki Decani: Moving the location of the monastery on Google maps is an open provocation

Visoki Decani Monastery announced today that for the third time in recent years, the location of that monastery was moved to Google Maps, this time to the center of Decani, which they assessed as “open provocation”. page, they assessed that “the regional administrators of Google Maps for that part of the Balkans, as well as those who serve them false information” are responsible for that.

“This not only makes access to the monastery more difficult, but it shows that one monastery can be deleted from the map overnight, and only because it is Serbian Orthodox and bothers someone,” the monastery said.

They added that in previous years the location was “intentionally” relocated, first near Leskovac, and then, instead of the monastery, the name of the hotel was located four kilometers away, while now the name of the monastery was simply deleted and its location moved to the center of Decani. .

“It is clear to anyone familiar with the functioning of IT technologies that this is not an accidental mistake, but an open provocation, especially having previous examples. And it is not difficult to guess who is behind it and what the reasons are,” the announcement reads.

According to them, visitors to the monastery find it difficult to find their way to the medieval monument “because the local Kosovo Albanian authorities persistently refuse to put up adequate signs about one of the most important historical buildings in Kosovo and Metohija, which is also under UNESCO protection.”

“Visitors often wander into the side streets and the only real sign is right next to the monastery, where it is guarded by KFOR forces themselves. Everything speaks of the attitude of local authorities towards the monastery,” the statement said.
