The number of flood victims in Western Europe has exceeded 180.

The federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate was the hardest hit, killing 110 people, and police said they feared the number would rise further.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, 45 people were killed, including four firefighters.

So far, 27 deaths have been confirmed in Belgium.

German Chancellor Angleka Merkel will visit the village of Schuld later today.

Last night, floods also hit the border area between Germany and the Czech Republic, and at least 65 people were evacuated after the Acha River near the Austrian border.
