Hostage taker (27) Apple Store Amsterdam died of his injuries

The man who held a customer hostage for hours on Tuesday evening in an Apple Store in Amsterdam has died from his injuries. That is what lawyer Jan Kees van den Brink says at the request of the man’s mother to the NOS. Various Dutch media report that the hostage-taker has been in contact with the judiciary several times in the past.

The 27-year-old man was hit by an arrest team of the Dutch police on Tuesday evening after being held hostage for hours in an Apple Store on Leidse Plein in Amsterdam. The man who by The Parool identified as Abdel Rahman A. died of his injuries on Wednesday evening. Lawyer Jan Kees van den Brink confirms this, reports NOS. The lawyer announced the death at the request of the mother of the hostage-taker. “The family hopes to be left alone and that their privacy is respected,” he said.

According to Het Parool, Abdel Rahman A. has repeatedly come into contact with the law in recent years. His last conviction is said to date back to May of last year. He then had to appear in court for allegedly sending messages containing pornographic, suggestive, humiliating and insulting images to his ex-girlfriend. He was then given a 60-hour community service order, a one-month suspended prison sentence and a three-year contact ban. The Amsterdam mayor, the public prosecutor and the police also announced that the 27-year-old has a criminal record in connection with the weapons and ammunition law. Further details about this are not yet known.

Furthermore, the man would regularly display confused behavior and he would have a history with the Amsterdam emergency services.

RTL News meanwhile also reports that the man in question works for the delivery service of supermarket chain Albert Heijn. He would also have driven a vehicle from the supermarket to the Apple Store and parked there in front of the entrance.
