On the 20th day of the war, Ki begins to realize that the doors of the North Atlantic Alliance are closed to Ukraine. Today, during a distant meeting with the leaders of Great Britain and Northern Europe, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky made such a confession.
“We are not a member of NATO. We understand that, we are adequate people. For years we heard that the doors of the alliance are open for us, but we have already heard that we will not join NATO. That is the truth, it must be accepted. “I am glad that our people, who have begun to understand this, now rely only on their own strength,” Zelensky said, adding that “the impression is that the bloc or some of its members are hypnotized by Russia’s aggression.”
This statement of the President of Ukraine was made against the background of ongoing large-scale hostilities. Like last night, tonight “Ki” was the target of Russian artillery. But if yesterday Russian bombs hit a residential building in the Obolon district in the north of the Ukrainian capital, tonight the explosions sounded much closer to the center of Ki, in the Podoly-Svyatoshin district, as well as near the Lukyanovskaya metro station.
According to the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine, two civilians were killed and one was wounded in the night shelling.
A few hours after the night shelling, Ki’s mayor Vitali Klitschko announced a decision to declare a 36-hour curfew in the capital.
“Now is a very difficult and dangerous moment, so by the order of the military curfew, a curfew will be announced in Ki today, from 8 pm to 7 am on March 17. “It will be possible to leave the house only with special passports or in case of an air emergency to reach the shelter,” said the mayor of Ki.
Last night he was uneasy in Kharkov, the second largest city in Ukraine, where seven people were killed in the night shelling. This was reported by the Ukrainian service of “Azatutyun”. According to the rescuers from Kharkov, a large fire broke out in the central market of the city due to the shelling.
According to “Interfax-Ukraine”, last night long-range missiles damaged the airport of the fourth largest city in the country, Dnepr (former Dnepropetrovsk), the two runways were closed, there is destruction in the passenger terminal.
The Russian side reports on the new successes registered in the south of Ukraine.
“The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have established full control over the entire territory of the Kherson region,” said the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Major General Igor Konashenkov during a daily briefing in Moscow today.
It should be reminded that the Kherson regional center was under the control of Russian forces in the first days of the war. Now, however, official Moscow confirms that it controls the whole region, the area of which is 28 thousand square kilometers. Thus, if we believe the Russian command, the front line now crosses the administrative borders of the Dnepropetrovsk region, only 30 kilometers from the hometown of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky Krivoy Rog.
The command of the Russian army claims that the country’s air force continues to dominate the Ukrainian sky.
“During the past day, the Russian Air Force and Air Defense Forces hit 16 air targets. “Among them are one Su-24, one Su-25 aircraft, one Mi-8 helicopter, as well as 13 Ukrainian drones, including six Bayraktar units,” said Igor Konashenkov.
In parallel with the ongoing hostilities, the flow of Ukrainian refugees to neighboring countries does not stop. According to official Warsaw, the number of refugees from Ukraine to Poland has already exceeded three million. Some of them are trying to be useful to the Ukrainian army abroad. In one of the libraries in Krakow, for example, a group of Ukrainian women and their Polish volunteers set up networks in the hope of hiding Ukrainian armor and air defense systems from Russian-dominated air forces.
