In Belgium, a car crashed into a carnival crowd, dozens of dead and injured

At least six people were killed and about 40 injured in the southern Belgian town of Strepy-Braquegny when an unidentified car crashed into participants in a carnival event. Ten of the injured are in critical condition.

At this stage, it is not clear whether the hit-and-run was intentional. According to incoming information, the car was moving at high speed. The perpetrator tried to flee the scene, but was arrested.

The event was attended by about 150 people. Condolences to the families of the victims were expressed by the Minister of the Interior of Belgium, Anneliese Verlinden. “The holiday turned into a big tragedy,” she said.
