“Fraud and contempt of court”: This is the punishment imposed in Russia on Alexei Navalny

The Russian court today (Tuesday) sentenced the Russian opposition leader to nine years in prison Alexei Navalny, For fraud and contempt of court. This, in light of the claim that he claimed to have used for personal use several million rubles of donations made to his political organizations.

The state court believes Navalny, who was jailed last year after surviving a poisoning attempt by the incumbent Moscow administration, fraudulently spent more than 356 million rubles on his own, out of more than 588 million rubles raised as donations for his anti-corruption fund. According to Nabalani’s associates, two of the alleged cases were “straw donors” and two more were real people who were pressured to testify against the opposition leader.
