The six journalists who died during the war in Ukraine

The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) confirmed today that the Ukrainian journalist Viktor Dedov he died on 11 March in Mariupol due to the bombing of his apartment. The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) extends its condolences to the journalist’s family and friends. The EFJ is once again calling on the Russian occupier to stop the bombing of civilian targets in Ukraine.

Viktor Dedov was one of the most important operators of the Ukrainian television station Sigma-TV. He was home when two bombs hit his apartment. The family could not bury the reporter because another grenade caused a fire in the house four days after the first explosions. Viktor Dedov is the fifth journalist to lose his life due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The other journalists who died in the war are:

  • Yevheniy SakunLIVE TV Ukrainian cameraman killed on 1 March during a missile attack on the TV tower in Kiev;
  • Brent RenaudUS journalist shot dead in Irpin on March 13;
  • Pierre ZakrzewskiFox News camera operator, and the Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynovakilled on March 14 in Horenka.
  • Oksana Baulinavideo reporter for the independent site The Insider, killed in a bombing raid on March 23 while filming the destruction caused by rocket fire on a shopping center in the Podolsky district
