About two million Ukrainian children have fled the war to other countries, and another 2.5 million have been internally displaced within Ukraine, the United Nations Children’s Agency (UNICEF) announced today.
UNICEF states that more than 1.1 million children from Ukraine are in Poland and that hundreds of thousands have arrived in Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Children make up half of the total number of refugees from Ukraine, according to the UN agency.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has determined that more than 100 children were killed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine and that at least 134 children were injured.
UNHCR states that the actual number of children killed and injured in Ukraine is probably much higher.
