Explosives in Leipzig: Charges against suspected parcel bomber

The alleged parcel bomber from Leipzig has to go to court. The public prosecutor has now brought charges against Florian O. (33), who is said to have placed several explosive charges in the west center between June and September 2021.

The accusation is to prepare an explosion crime and in four cases to cause an explosive explosion, as the public prosecutor announced on Monday. The man has been in custody since October 13. The regional court in Leipzig must now decide whether to admit the charges.

The 33-year-old is accused of having positioned four explosive devices in the center of Leipzig between June and September 2021, with all four devices detonating.

For example, an explosive device exploded in a used clothes container at the beginning of June. The suspect has also been said to have deposited explosive devices on the sidewalks or in a deposit machine since May.

Some of them caught fire, exploded or deflagrated. Two men aged 36 and 40 were injured. There was no information about the suspect’s possible motive.

Florian O. would probably have continued to bomb. But in October, while tinkering, an explosive device went off in the young man’s apartment on Alexanderstrasse. The apartment was badly demolished, O. was injured.

The pre-trial arrest warrant was issued to him while he was still in the clinic. Since his release from the hospital, the suspect has been in prison awaiting trial. The district court must decide on the date.
