A magnitude 7.0 earthquake was recorded today off the coast of Haiti, the American Geological Institute (USGS) reported.
A tsunami warning was issued, reports Agence France-Presse.
The quake’s epicenter was 12 kilometers northeast of St. Louis di Sid, according to the Institute.
People in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, felt the earthquake and many took to the streets in fear.

A strong earthquake that hit Haiti early this morning killed several people, the country’s civil protection director Jerry Chandler told Agence France-Presse.
“I confirm that there are dead, but I do not have a precise number yet,” Chandler said.
He added that Prime Minister Ariel Henry was on his way to the National Emergency Operations Center in Port-au-Prince.
