Fortnite collected aid to Ukraine worth $ 144 million

US studio “Epic Games” plans to pay $ 144 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine, equivalent to the total profits made by its famous game “Fortnite” during the past two weeks, according to a statement published Monday.

The organizers of the game, which has more than 350 million users around the world, pledged to pay the profits earned between March 20 and April 3 “for the benefit of the victims of the war in Ukraine.”

Xbox (from “Microsoft”) contributed this amount with its profits from its famous game “Battle Royale”, which launched its new season on March 20.

These funds will go to the benefit of several international associations, including UNICEF, the World Food Program and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The war in Ukraine has left thousands dead and forced about 4.2 million Ukrainians to flee, 90% of whom are women and children, since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24.

Many companies have raised funds to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, including video game studios such as Riot Games, developer of League of Legends, which raised $5.4 million.

The game “Fortnite”, which is downloaded for free, generates billions of dollars in revenue thanks to players buying additional items for their characters, including clothes.

The game quickly became a global phenomenon, to the point that some matches attract millions of followers directly.
