Medvedev’s wife offers to exchange husband for British captives in Mariupol

The wife of pro-Russian opposition figure Viktor Medvedchuk, Oksana Marchenko, who was recently arrested in Ukraine, today appealed to the British authorities to organize an exchange of her husband with the British captives in Mariupol, who were taking part in the hostilities in the Ukrainian army.

“I appeal to the relatives of Aiden Eslin և Sean Payner. “As far as you can, I appealed to the Prime Minister Boris Johnson to influence the Ukrainian leadership, to achieve the release of Aiden-Shawn, exchanging them with my husband, opposition figure Viktor Medvedchuk,” Marchenko said.

Hours after the announcement, the Russian Foreign Ministry hinted that official Moscow might consider holding such an exchange.

“The Russian Foreign Ministry expects that the British leadership will respond promptly to the request of the wife of Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk,” Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, wrote in her Telegram.
