Several hundreds of climate activists from the Extinction Rebellion blocked key roads in central Paris and London on Saturday.
In Paris, protesters captured a 300-meter stretch of a central route and blocked traffic with hay bales and concrete barriers. In London, thousands of protesters gathered at the Marble Arch roundabout to demand the abandonment of fossil fuels. A few London protesters glued themselves to a limousine.
According to London police, the protest caused a major traffic jam. Police arrested six protesters.
In Paris protesters said they would continue to protest until Monday. The riot police followed the protest but did not intervene.
Climate protesters have become more active in Britain since the government unveiled its new energy strategy, which emphasizes renewable energy and nuclear power but also increases North Sea oil production.
