The Ecuadorean Ministry of the Interior confirmed today, April 18, the discovery of 2.4 tons of cocaine in a container of bananas destined for Belgium from the port of Guayaquil in the country’s southwest.
The Ecuadorean Ministry of Interior tweeted, “2.458 kg of cocaine were recovered.”

According to the ministry, authorities attempted to locate 246 sachets of cocaine disguised in a cargo of bananas, one of the country’s key export products, and one person was apprehended.
Previously, the Ecuadorean Ministry of Interior confiscated a record 210 tons of contraband, principally cocaine, in 2021, and has seized more than 70 tons since the start of the year.
