Largest vaccine manufacturer in the world stops production of corona vaccine due to stalling demand

Due to a drop in global demand, the Serum Institute of India, the world’s largest vaccine maker, stated on Friday that it would discontinue producing its corona vaccines under license from AstraZeneca.

Covishield, the Indian version of AstraZeneca’s vaccine, was produced in excess of a billion doses by the institute. It also contributed significantly to the Covax program, which distributes corona vaccines to the world’s poorest countries.

Since last summer, supply has outstripped demand. However, there are still billions of people worldwide who have not got a Covid-19 vaccine.
