Already the second mining accident this week in Poland, several miners are still being sought – Abroad

On Wednesday, at least five people died and several were injured at a coal mine in Pniówek. There was an accident at another mine of the same owner on Saturday.

Polish in the southern part of Zofiówka there was a coal mine accident on Saturday, according to the news agency AFP.

Two miners have been found dead after the accident. The men were left underground when the earthquake caused a methane leak. There are still several miners missing.

There were 52 miners in the mine early Saturday morning after the quake, 42 of whom managed to escape. The miners were at a depth of about 900 meters.

At issue is already the second mining accident this week in Poland. On Wednesday, at least five people died and several were injured at a coal mine in Pniówek. Both mines are owned by the mining company JSW.

The Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki described Saturday’s news as shocking.

Wednesday in the wake of the accident, seven people are missing and it was decided to suspend their search because conditions in the mine were too dangerous.

On Wednesday, Morawiecki expressed his condolences over the accident and announced that he was traveling to the area.

In Poland there have been several mining accidents in recent years.

For example, in 2018, five miners died in an earthquake that struck the Zofiówka mine.

Last year, two people died in an accident at the Mysłowice-Wesoła mine.

Poland still produces about 70% of its energy from coal.
