UNS with the mayor of Grocka about the attack on the editor of the Zig Info portal

Representatives of the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) talked today with the President of the Municipality of Grocka Dragan Pantelic and the editor of the Zig Info portal Zeljko Matorcevic about the case of the attack on the editor of that paper in 2018, for which the attackers were not identified.

The association pointed out at the meeting that the resumption of the investigation into the beating of Matorčević and the discovery of the attackers is something he will advocate within the Working Group for Security and Protection of Journalists and the Standing Working Group for Security of Journalists, according to a UNS statement.

The meeting also discussed the conditions for the work of the media and the possibility of separating and announcing the media competition independently of the competition for projects in the field of culture, arts and sports, and the Mayor said that he would do everything to improve working conditions. other media.

On October 9, 2018, Matorčević was attacked by a man who first punched him in the face and then shot him while he was on the ground. Due to a broken cheekbone, the editor of Zig infa spent a week in the hospital.

Two months after the beating of Matorčević, the house of Milan Jovanović, an associate of Zig Info, was set on fire, for which a retrial was conducted in which the former mayor of Grocka and Serbian Progressive Party official Dragoljub Simonović was originally sentenced to four years and three months in prison.
