Greta Thunberg arrested during pro-Palestine demonstration

Greta Thunberg and a group of activists were arrested after occupying a building at the University of Copenhagen to demand the academic boycott of Israeli universities. The news was reported by Danish media.

Pictures published by the daily newspaper Ekstrabladet showed the 21-year-old climate activist wearing a black and white keffiyeh as she was escorted out of the campus building by police. Meanwhile, Thunberg shared images on Instagram of riot police entering a building where the group “Students Against Occupation” was organizing a protest.

“I cannot confirm the names of those arrested, but six people have been arrested in connection with the demonstration,” a Copenhagen police spokesperson told AFP.

“It is suspected that they forced their way into the building and blocked the entrance.”

Students Against Occupation said in a statement posted on Instagram that “while the situation in Palestine continues to worsen, the University of Copenhagen continues to cooperate with academic institutions in Israel.”

“We are occupying” the “central administration of the university with only one demand: academic boycott now”.

Since last spring, pro-Palestinian protesters have set up camps at universities across the United States and Europe to protest Israel’s bombing of Gaza and occupation of Palestinian territory.
