Political forces are already looking to May 19 when Prime Minister Mario Draghi will give a briefing to the Chambers.
The words of the prime minister spoken to the tenant of the White House Biden have, however, lowered the tension in the majority.
Il head of government has promoted an operation to relaunch the prospect of peace and the American stage (it is not excluded, among other things, according to parliamentary sources, that Draghi may soon make a stop also in Israel) was considered a positive signal by those who, on the other hand, feared that Rome intended to adopt more clear-cut positions on dispatch of weapons.
Salvini said he was satisfied, “it is essential – he remarked – that Italy and Europe resume a central role, not in the wake of others. Never before has an axis between Rome, Paris and Berlin been fundamental for the ceasefire “.
“If Salvini’s League or other forces join us, I strongly hope so”, says pentastellato Conte president, regarding the battle on the arms front against Ukraine.
But in the Democratic Party the fear is that a yellow-green axis could be welded precisely on the conflict in Ukraine.
The former prime minister does not retreat on his positions: “If the goal is to defeat Russia, we could cultivate an unlimited military escalation which for me would be a crazy prospect, “he argued.
And it does not even give in on the need for a vote by the Chambers on the positioning of Italy. “It would be unusual if, after two and a half months of war, Prime Minister Draghi did not come to Parliament”, he stressed.
The 5-star Movement will work on the resolution before the next European Council but when the Chief Executive arrives in the Chamber he will place ‘stakes’ on some specific points.
And the most important will be precisely that linked to the sending of weapons. But different positions remain within the Movement.
And the litmus test remains the internal debate on who should replace Petrocelli at the head of the Foreign Affairs Commission of Palazzo Madama.
Meanwhile, the paradox, reflects a ‘big’ of the 5-star Movement, is that the leader of the Castellone group must decide on Petrocelli’s move to another Commission.
Because at the moment Petrocelli has not yet been formally expelled. The fear is that a possible appeal by the latter could then call into question the leaders of the groups at Palazzo Madama.
By now the process of the dissolution of the Commission has started and by Friday there will have to be the new names of those who will have to be part of it.
The other forces of the majority have already informed President Casellati that they intend to confirm the old components while M5s, in addition to Petrocelli, will replace the pentastellato Airola probably with the former group leader Licheri.
Castellone at the group meeting announced that he will focus on Ferrara: Iv has already said he does not want to vote for him while there is resistance in the Democratic Party but it is explained that the game is entirely within the Movement.
The condition is that there must be a different line from that carried out by Petrocelli who – observes a member of the Democratic Party – has had continuous meetings with the Russian ambassador in Italy and with Belarusian diplomats.
To avoid a repetition of a ‘Petrocelli case’, it is not excluded that in the end the choice will come through the secret ballot. Nor is it excluded that the 5-star Movement supports the Ferrara indication in compact ranks.
