Justin Timberlake pleads guilty to drunk driving and agrees to perform 25 hours of community service

Singer and former frontman of the band N’Sync, Justin Timberlake, has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and has been fined $500 and agreed to perform 25 hours of community service over the next year. He will also have his driving license revoked for 90 days.

Timberlake was arrested early Tuesday morning, June 18, in Long Island, New York. He was released without bail the next day and charged with drunk driving.

According to CNN, court records indicate that Timberlake told the police officer that he had “had a martini” after being pulled over for running a stop sign and failing to stay in his lane.

A Sag Harbor Village Police Department officer described the singer as “unable to divide attention” with “bloodshot and glassy” eyes, adding that he “had slowed speech, an unsteady gait and performed poorly on all standardized sobriety tests.”

Timberlake told reporters that he found himself “in a position where I could have made a different decision” and admitted that he made a mistake, from which he has learned.

The singer has asked the media to spread a message against alcohol consumption: “Even if you have had just one drink, do not get behind the wheel.”
