Tia Kouvo’s Mummola was chosen as Finland’s Oscar nominee

Finland was chosen as a candidate for the Academy Award for Best International Film Tia Kouvon directed and written Grandma. About that told Film Chamber on Monday.

The film tells the story of three generations celebrating Christmas together, where Finnish Christmas rituals meet the tensions of family relationships.

Grandma has been awarded at several international festivals. It was also awarded three Juss this year.

The movie are playing the main roles Ria Kataja, Elina Knihtilä, Leena Uotila, Tom Wentzel and Jarkko Pajunen. Mummola’s Finnish premiere was in November last year.

The jury of film professionals formed under the leadership of the Film Chamber is responsible for Finland’s Oscar selection. The final Oscar nominations will be announced in January. The Oscars will be handed out on March 2 at a gala televised around the world.
