Rosellini: "I bring my ‘Wild Electra’ to Verona"

“I worked on Elettra, on this creature full of hate, but who is also a wounded animal. She is part of those great female figures who tend to be forgotten. On the stage of the Roman Theatre I will bring aWild Electra its animality.” Federica Rosellini thus tells AGI about the role that awaits her at Roman Theatre of Verona on September 19th and 20thin the last show on the program of the Estate Teatrale Veronese, which began last July 4th with Hamlet which kicked off three months of events with 15 national premieres and 7 co-productions and 52 evenings of performances.

Elettra is directed by Serena Sinigaglia, who tackles Hofmannsthal’s Electra involving two extraordinary interpreters such as Federica Rosellini in the title role and Arianna Scommegna in that of Clytemnestra. “It’s a gift to be able to work with Serena and Arianna, whom I’ve loved since I was at the Academy. And the bond with Duse is very strong for me: I was born in Treviso, I have a close relationship with Asolo, and some of my first shows were staged there, like the 2008 marathon dedicated to Duse, when I still had to enter the Academy,” recalls Rosellini.

Senigaglia’s direction starts from two assumptions: the first is the myth, the origin, or rather that immense work that is Aeschylus’ Oresteia. The second is the historical period in which Hofmannsthal lived, the period between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, in Vienna. A true cultural revolution in all the arts and first of all in the theatre. The dawn of what would later become German Expressionism. “The setting in Vienna preparing for war communicates an air of storm that thickens in the soul”, adds Rosellini.
