Sports car manufacturer Porsche says that it is investing even more in the synthetic fuel known as eFuel.
In 2022, it opened a small renewable energy pilot plant in Chile, where gasoline is produced using hydrogen and carbon dioxide, among other things. Production is to be scaled up.
In Finland, especially an energy company St1 has sought to promote synthetic fuels.
Autocarin interviewed by Porsche’s research and development manager by Michael Steiner according to the report, synthetic fuels can not only keep sports and vintage cars – such as Porsche – in traffic for longer, but also reduce the emissions of ordinary car traffic.
Porsche has wanted to underline the performance of the fuel, for example by refueling its racing cars with it in the 911 GT3 Cup car races.
Recently, Porsche announced that it will extend the lifespan of the combustion engine models of its large SUV, the Cayenne, partly due to declining electric car sales.
Of some according to research data synthetic fuels would not be more environmentally friendly than conventionally produced gasoline, at least in terms of nitrogen oxide emissions.
